Police are still searching for clues in the shooting deaths of two Demopolis men outside a city residence Thursday night.
Demopolis Police Chief Tim Williams put a call out for anyone with information pertaining to Thursday night’s double homicide in Demopolis. He is asking they call the department’s tip line at 334-289-1475.
“All calls and information received through the tip line are anonymous and confidential,” he said.
Henry Green, 22, of Demopolis and Ron Elmore, 35, of Demopolis were shot in front of 722 E. Decatur Street in Demopolis around 5 p.m. Thursday night.
One of the victims was pronounced dead on the scene. The other died at Bryan W. Whitfield Hospital shortly after the shooting.
Rumors spread quickly after the shooting that a girlfriend to one of the men was taken into custody as a suspect. Williams said Friday that was not the case and a suspect is still being sought.
“We do not have any suspects yet and have not made any arrests. Everything is still under investigation,” he said. “We need information from anyone who would know anything about this case.”
Thursday’s shooting marks the second and third killings in Demopolis for 2008.
“It’s tragic for the families,” said a man who lives a few houses up from where the shooting occurred and claims to know both victims. He requested to remain anonymous.
“Both men were real good guys. They may have had some baggage, but I don’t know. They always seemed okay to me,” he said. “I really feel for their families. It doesn’t seem right that this is happening here in Demopolis.”
