Tommy Vice of Demopolis was named the Marengo County Volunteer of the Year by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Vice will be honored at the RSVP awards and recognition dinner in Thomasville on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 5 p.m.
RSVP covers six counties: Marengo, Choctaw, Dallas, Washington and Wilcox.
Vice has done volunteer work with the Nutrition Center, March of Dimes Relay for Life, Westside Baptist Church and Demopolis Singers, among others.
“I enjoy seeing the smiles on their faces,” Vice said.
“We pick three volunteers from each county,” said Southwest Alabama RSVP director Donna Phillips. Each county’s Volunteer of the Year is chosen from those three nominees.
“Our volunteers are required to be 55 or older,” said RSVP volunteer coordinator Vivian McClure. “Tommy has been a volunteer with us for several years. This year, he had enough hours to be chosen as Volunteer of the Year. He was also chosen because of the commitment he has. He also put some hours in at Southern Oaks Assisted Living.
“He works at the Nutrition Center in Demopolis. He goes every day and cleans and helps serve food. He is just a dedicated person.”
Several people see Tommy Vice every day. Now, they can see him as an honored RSVP Volunteer of the Year.
