LINDEN — A drug investigation involving four police agencies netted nine arrests in Linden early Saturday morning.
The drug investigation began in January and involved a total of 23 officers from the Linden Police Dept., Marengo Co. Sheriff’s Dept. Sumter Co. Sheriff’s Dept. and the Thomasville Police Dept.
“We had 11 grand jury indictments for distribution of a controlled substance,” said Linden Police Chief Scott McClure. “We effected search warrants at 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning for three other residences. We made a total of seven arrests on those indictments, and of the four remaining indictments, we made two arrests today (Monday).”
Those search warrants led to the impoundment of five vehicles. Police also took in 34 crack rocks, a .22 pistol, a .25 pistol and two rifles.
Arrested on Saturday were Cedric Rembert, Rodney Raby, Barry Walker, Quinton Daniels, Eddie Lee Williams, Demetrius Wolf, all for distribution of a controlled substance, and Mary McNair on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Arrested on Monday were Daniel Kimbrough, who turned himself in to the Linden Police Dept., and Ollie Craig, also arrested on the charge of distribution of a controlled substance. All of those arrested are from Linden.
“We’re going to try to seize the vehicles through the court system,” said McClure. “That way, we can ensure that no drugs will be sold in them again.”
McClure described those arrested as “middlemen,” people who bought drugs in volume and sold them locally to users.
“I want to thank all of those officers who took part in this investigation,” he said. “It would not have gone as safely and effectively without their help. When you have 22 officers behind you, it makes it a lot easier and safer. No one was hurt in the investigation.”
