DEMOPOLIS —The quarterback club will kickoff off its membership drive on Thursday, Aug. 7 when it welcomes Mal Moore, director of athletics for the University of Alabama.
“I called him and he was more than willing to come,” Kenny Freeman, quarterback club president, said. “We’re real fortunate to get him down here.”
“He’s been coming down for a few years turkey hunting with us,” Freeman said of Moore. “Coach (Bear) Bryant always preached ‘have class.’ It caught with Mal Moore,” Freeman said.
Moore, who was named UA’s athletic director in November of 1999, holds an undergraduate degree in sociology and a master’s degree in secondary education. He
will address Demopolis Quarterback Club members at the city civic center at 7 p.m.
“If you’re a member of the quarterback club and re-up your membership, you get in free,” Freeman said.
According to Freeman, quarterback club members will be granted admission upon paying the $25 dues for the upcoming season. Each additional friend or family member will be admitted for $5.
“This is kind of a kickoff for our membership drive,” Freeman said. “If you’re going to buy your membership at the door, you may want to try to get there a little early.”
Quarterback club memberships are also available through contacting Kenny Freeman at West Alabama Real Estate, Olin Kerby at BankTrust or Terri Speegle at 334-289-1997.
