By Aug. 1 the Linden Industrial Park will have a new tenant. City officials announced this week Advanced Disposal, which has a contract with the city for garbage pick-up, is moving their Marengo County operations from Demopolis to Linden.
According to a release sent out by the city, Advanced will relocate its Southwestern Gulf Coast Division to an existing building in the industrial park.
“This will be a great plus for us,” said Dr. Walter Davis, of the Linden Industrial Development Board. “We’re glad to have them come.”
The new site will bring 25 jobs to Linden, and is expected to bring an additional five jobs in the near future with the construction of a transfer station.
With the company’s move, they will be vacating a spot in the south Demopolis Industrial Park on Jefferson Road.
According to Jay Shows, former executive director of the Demopolis Industrial Board, the move from the park should have minimal impact on the city of Demopolis. While some of the lots at the park have special lease agreements with the city and the board, this particular lot has been privately owned and operated for several years, even before the park officially developed.
“This should really have zero impact,” Shows said. “Their employment is not going to change.”
The move is reportedly in order to centralize the company’s operations within the county. They also hold a contract with the city of Demopolis for garbage pick-up.
“If this move makes them have a more efficient operation, then it will ultimately be a benefit to the customers,” Shows said.
Officials in Linden have been told the move will be complete by Aug. 1.
