Plans set for Freedom on the River

DEMOPOLIS &8212; Children decorated in red, white and blue, pets carrying American flags, family, food and fun can be found riding along side the riverfront in Demopolis in celebration of the Fourth of July on Friday.
The event hosted by the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce will take place on at the Demopolis City Landing, beginning at 7 p.m. with the Children&8217;s Patriotic Parade hosted by the Demopolis Civitan Club. Vendors will be on site selling food and patriotic memorabilia for the festivities. The Rock-Tenn Freedom Fireworks Extravaganza will be held after dark.
Children&8217;s Patriotic Parade
The parade encourages children of all ages to decorate their modes of transportation (wagons, strollers, skateboards, bicycles, etc&8230;) in red, white and blue for a parade from the Demopolis Civic Center to the Demopolis City Landing. Approximately 40 children participated in the Children&8217;s Patriotic Parade last year, riding decorated transportation including wagons, bikes and children&8217;s cars. Last year&8217;s parade was led by George Frank in his Model T. The parade traveled down Commissioner&8217;s Avenue to the Demopolis City Landing.
To enter the parade, children need to either register in advance through the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce office or arrive at the Demopolis Civic Center for registration beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the day of the event. Registration will close at 6:30 p.m. for judging before the parade starts. Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries in three age groups based on creativity and festivity.
Following the parade there will be a time to partake in the food and children&8217;s activity vendors that will be present. Then,the Rock-Tenn Freedom Fireworks Extravaganza will kick off shortly after dark.
