DEMOPOLIS &8212; On Saturday, May 24, the city landing welcomed more than two dozen boats that took part in a fishing tournament hosted by the River City Bassmasters.
The tournament was designed to benefit Ricky Ayres, whose family lost its home in a fire earlier this month. Event organizers were hopeful of drawing 30 boats, but were pleased with falling just two shy of that number.
The tournament&8217;s first place winners were Jimmy and Earl Richey of Greensboro. Bill McCarter of Demopolis took second place. Weeks and other organizers reportedly worked for approximately two weeks in preparation for the event.
Weeks neglected to disclose the amount of money raised, opting to respect the privacy of the Ayres family in light of their circumstances.
