DEMOPOLIS &8212; Kevin May met Monday with the 18 players who will likely comprise the area&8217;s junior American Legion team. The squad will consist primarily of players aged 15-17 from Demopolis High School and Marengo Academy.

The team will begin play Thursday at the Sports-Plex with a double-header starting at 4 p.m.

May, who is in his first season coaching Legion ball, believed the team should receive a big boost from picking up Demopolis talent.

Reportedly, the bulk of the players participating decided to do so at the urging of their high school coaches.

Sammons explained he opted to play on the team rather than competing in a traditional recreational league.

In addition to the team&8217;s regular schedule, it will play in a tournament at the University of West Alabama, the postseason district tournament and, perhaps, the state tournament.
