It could be a New Era for a Demopolis plant.
The town’s New Era Cap Company has voted 202-66 for union representation.
The vote last week allows the Communications Workers of America to begin negotiating a contract with the company.
Those talks could be on hold until an organizing effort by the Teamsters at New Era’s plant in Jackson is resolved.
New Era is based in Buffalo, New York and makes hats for Major League Baseball and others. The company opted not to oppose unionization at the Demopolis and Jackson plants earlier this year under a contract deal with the Teamsters at its Mobile warehouse.
The Communications Workers won rights to organize the 400-worker Demopolis plant. The Teamsters got the 375-worker Jackson plant.
