DEMOPOLIS &045; The Tigers (2-3) proved unable to slow the John Carroll attack, falling at home to 5A’s No. 1 team and section foe, John Carroll, 10-0.
John Carroll remained on the offensive throughout the game, allowing only two Demopolis shot attempts.
Reed Matte started the scoring for JCHS when he found the back of the net with 29:33 remaining in the first half. Less than seven minutes later, Cory Gonzalez found a seam in the DHS defense to begin a seven-minute stretch in which John Carroll connected on four goals. Matte, Alex Kuklinski and Justin Matte all beat the Tiger defense during that span. Garrett Nealer added a goal with 3:34 left until the break to push the score to 6-0.
At halftime, DHS coach Peter Keen encouraged his squad to go on the attack and shoot the ball once it crossed into the JCHS side of the field.
The Tigers found that strategy a difficult one to execute as Reed Matte scored his third goal of the contest only seven minutes into the second frame. After DHS held John Carroll scoreless for a 10-minute period, Michael Ciamarra, Jacob Booth and Brian Nunley ended the game by combining for three goals in five minutes.
The loss is the second straight 10-point defeat the Tigers have suffered.
DHS will look to even its record when it travels to play Tuscaloosa County Friday night.
