Marengo Softball goes 2-1 at Gator Classic

In the opening game for Marengo Academy, the Horns defeated
Jackson 5-0 on the strength of a seven-strikeout, two-hitter by Ashley Stokes. Michelle Pritchett entered the game in the fourth inning to record two strikeouts and allow no uprising by the Jackson bats. Pritchett also put together a two-hit day while Libba Carroll and Amber Walker each managed a 2-RBI double and Amber Walker. The Lady Horns played well defensively, only committing one error in the contest.
The second game of the day saw Horns pitcher Ashley Stokes put together a no-hitter in a 1-0 loss to Patrician. PA&8217;s Stephanie Caudle reached on an error, later coming across for the game&8217;s only run. MA managed only three hits in the game. Stokes again struck out seven in the game, surrendering no walks in the process.
MA defeated the host Clarke Prep Gators 5-2 in the day&8217;s final game. Pritchett picked up the win with six strikeouts, giving up only two walks, two hits and two runs. Walker came up big with a homerun to lead the offensive effort for the Horns.
Marengo Academy Wins Home Opener
Marengo Academy (3-1) dominated on the field Monday at Scott Park, defeating South Choctaw 17-2. The winning pitcher, Ashley Stokes, struck out 10, gave up three hits and two runs. Stokes, along with Chelsea Etheridge and Abbey Huckabee, stroked two singles and one double in the game. Amber Walker supplied the power with a homerun and a triple, Brittany Black also managed a multi-hit performance, while Jessica Brock, Michelle Pritchett, Kaleigh Robison, Shelby Mathis and Shonna Hammond each joined in the hit parade. Marengo gave up no errors defensively.
Marengo will play Friday and Saturday in the Patrician Academy Tournament in Butler. MA opens up Friday at 3:30 p.m. against Cottage Hill of Mobile.
