The Demopolis and West Alabama community lost one of its greats Monday with the death of Hugh A. Lloyd.
He spent his life serving his Lord, family, country, state and community. He is remembered for his continued support and dedication to many civic organizations in the community, including the Demopolis Kiwanis Club, Boy Scouts of America, Marengo Port Authority, the 17th Judicial Circuit Bar Association, the Judson College Board of Trustees and West Alabama Mental Health, just to name a few.
As co-founder of the Demopolis City Schools Foundation, Lloyd was devoted to quality education for the children of Demopolis.
Lloyd was selected not only as Citizen of the Year by the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce, but also was awarded the 2001 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chamber.
Those that knew Lloyd the best said mostly they will miss his caring nature. He led his life in such a way that others respected him and looked to him for guidance in their own life.
Tom Boggs, Lloyd&8217;s business partner and friend said it best, &8220;Well done Hugh Adams Lloyd.&8221;
