DEMOPOLIS &8212; In preparation for their upcoming event, the local Relay for Life committee is making plans for their kick-off party, which is scheduled for Jan. 24 at 5:20 p.m. in Rooster Hall.
The party is way to bring community members together to gear up for the cause of raising money and awareness of cancer, said Jennifer Hallman of the American Cancer society. The theme of the party, as with all Relay for Life events, is one of fun for the whole family.
Hallman said the group is always looking for more people to help out. In addition to recruiting teams, the committee is looking for people to help plan and organize all the different upcoming Relay for Life events.
This year&8217;s Relay for Life chairman is Wendy Brown and the co-chairman is Melvin Yelverton. The chairmen and other volunteers have already begun planning for the main event, which will be on April 25.
Last year&8217;s total fundraising goal was $65,000, but by the end of the yearlong process, Relay for Life was able to raise over $66,000 from team and individuals donations.
