BIRMINGHAM &8212; Gregory Smith, 44, of Birmingham died Jan. 3, 2008, at D.C.H. Hospital in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Allenville. The Rev. James Murdock officiated. Interment with military honors followed in Allenville Cemetery in Allenville. Larkin&Scott Funeral directors of Demopolis were in charge of the arrangements.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, supervisor of security for the Veterans Administration.

His father, Walter Smith, of Gallion, maternal grandmother, Mary Maddox, of Worcester, Mass. and several other relatives, preceded Smith in death.

Survivors include his mother, Jeanette Maddox Smith, of Gallion; daughter, Kirsten Leigh Smith, of Sacramento, Calif.; sister, Lynda Smith, of Birmingham; two uncles; four aunts and a host of other relatives and friends.
