DEMOPOLIS &8212; How long has the Coming Together Organization been around?
It started 16 years again, and basically it is a group of people coming together that see a need in the community and try to help with that. We try to do three projects a year; one is a back to school program. In the past we&8217;ve gotten grants from the state, for some educational projects.
How long has the organization been doing their annual Christmas feeding and the Give A Child A Wish project?
We&8217;ve been doing this since we started 16 years ago. It&8217;s one of our major fund raising projects.
How have the projects been going so far?
This year, we&8217;ve had a good response. We&8217;ve had an abundance of applications.
How many people does it take to get the toys and meals together?
It usually takes the entire staff of Kora&8217;s Place plus most of the CTO members.
Has the CTO always prepared the meals at Kora&8217;s Place?
We didn&8217;t use Kora&8217;s in the past, and then we realized we needed a restaurant equipment to get it all together.
How many people will the CTO serve with this project?
We usually try to feed about 500 people and give toys to 200 children.
How do these projects work?
We basically spend all day at Kora&8217;s Place preparing the meals and feeding people. The toys are given out on the Sunday before.
How are the recipients of the donated toys and meals determined?
We have applications that people can fill out, and they have to have them in by Dec. 15. If people need an application they can see Grady Kelly, he&8217;s usually at the Demopolis Shoe Shop on Wednesdays and Fridays.
How important is this project?
It really is important, and it makes and impact on the people in the community.
How can people get involved?
They can make donations to Post Office Box 1084 or call us at 334-289-0142.
