GREENSBORO &8212; Charlotte Alice Battles Bailey, 94, of Greensboro, died on Nov. 15, 2007, at Colonial Haven Care and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Newbern Cemetery with the Rev. Alton Phillips officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes in Greensboro Chapel directing.

Batley was born on Nov. 22, 1912, in Chattooga County to Paul Cleveland and Julia Ann Graves Battles. She was a housewife.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Whitelaw Bailey.

She is survived by a son, Whitelaw Bailey Jr. and wife, Anne, of Newbern; one daughter, Julia Bailey Manos of Martinez, Ga; two sisters, Dovie Mae Batttles Wells of Selma and Dorothy Battles Gates of Lowndesboro; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Eric Hagan Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in memory of Charlotte to the Newbern Presbyterian Church and Newbern Cemetery, the address for the Newbern Church is Anne Honeycutt, P.O. 351, Newbern, Ala. 36765.
