URIAH &8212; On the ride back from their 20-21 loss against J.U. Blacksher High School, Marengo High School has a lot of ifs to ponder. What if we had scored one or both of our field goals? What if we had went for two on one if not both of the missed field goals? More importantly, what if we hadn&8217;t fumbled six times and given up three?
Well, it might have been a different game. As it stands Marengo High School barely lost to a team that is hovering on the cusp of the 1A top 10 right now. And they did it without much help from the offense.
The Panthers managed only nine first downs in the game and had only 122 total yards, all of which were on the ground. All of which came from two players: junior Ontarrio Woods had 62 yards on eight carries and a touchdown and sophomore Michael Watkins with 60 yards on 10 carries.
The defense and special teams continued to hold firm. Kaylos Pritchett had 21 tackles, 10 solo and 11 assisted, Lawrence Pritchett had 16 and Jeremy Bouler had 15.
Michael Watkins scored off a 25-yard fumble return and James Dumas posted a kick return for a touchdown for 90 yards.
