LINDEN &8212; At the suggestion of Officer Marvin Bryant, the Police Department is looking for children interested in a program tentatively titled &8220;Meet the Chief.&8221;
Interim Police Chief Scott McClure said the program is not intended to be a junior police officer program and is for any child ages 5 to 17 in Linden or the surrounding areas.
The main focus of the program will be on setting goals, discipline, integrity, respect, self-control and character building. The format of the program has yet to be determined, but prizes and incentives will be given, McClure said. They also plan to show films and enforce safety and how to stay off drugs and alcohol.
Originally when the program was conceived, Bryant suggested the student who did the best in the program would get a chance to eat breakfast with the chief.
McClure said the program is targeted to the younger kids, but there is already one high school senior interested in the program.
McClure also said if the program goes well, LPD would look into continuing the program next year.
If you are interested in the program, contact Linden Police Department at 334-295-8697 or Officer Marvin Bryant at 334-422-2445.
