DEMOPOLIS &8212; Artists work from all spectrums of art will be on showcase next month during an event sponsored by The Two Rivers Arts Council. The Fifth Annual Artist Showcase will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Demopolis Public Library on Sunday, Sept. 9.
Beverly Youngblood, member of the council, said the event is usually held the first weekend in June, but schedule conflicts postponed this year&8217;s showcase. Youngblood said she expects 35 to 36 artists to display their works at the event, in addition to several musicians.
The featured artists are from all over Marengo County, with several of them from Demopolis.
One returning artist to the showcase is Louise Reynolds, a painter. Her concentration in the last several years has been painting icons of the Catholic Church, although she does paint other subjects.
Youngblood said the event usually brings a range of different mediums such as painting, sculpting, glassmaking, photography, pottery, jewelry and woodcarvings. She also expects approximately 200 guests to come and view the works.
Youngblood said the event is a true showcase because the event is a simply a time for local artists to display their works, they are not for sale or auction.
In addition to the Artists Showcase, the arts council sponsors other events throughout the year such as Sax and the City, the symphony and special groups such as the Stillman choir.
