In their spring jamboree against fellow state powerhouses of 1A football, No. 2 Brantley High School Bulldogs and No. 6 Maplesville Red Devils, the Sweet Water Bulldogs, coming off a championship season last year, came out and reestablished themselves as the team to beat to make it to Legion field.
During the halves played in the jamboree, Luker&8217;s junior varsity team was given an opportunity to shine after the varsity starters got their work. And it is this ability to allow young players playing time early that has Luker&8217;s program in such good shape.
Senior Anthony Landrum opened the scoring for the Bulldogs, in the match ups were the group outscored its opponents 34-14, off a 32 yard run. In all the Bulldogs had 29 rushes for 174 yards.
After the exeunt of Dominique Holt, a five-year starter who rushed for 5,209 yards career with 78 touchdowns, Landrum&8217;s performance exhibits the benefits of allowing young players to adjust to roles prior to having the burden placed on their shoulders.
