DEMOPOLIS &8212; The local chapter of Pilot Club International made its debut in 1947, securing a place in local history for the last 60 years. In honor of the service club&8217;s anniversary, a tea will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday at 2 p.m.
President Margie Belcher said she expects about 50 current and former members to attend the event, in addition to the club&8217;s district president, Cookie Adair.
Belcher has been in the Pilot Club for 24 years, and as of July this is her third run as president.
In addition to longevity, the Pilot Club is known for their local service projects, which have changed and expanded over the years, Belcher said. This year the club&8217;s biggest effort is helping to fund Project Lifesaver in Marengo County.
According to Belcher, a main focus for service projects from Pilot Club International is on efforts dealing with brain disorders and helping people with disabilities.
