DEMOPOLIS &8212; The Third Annual Demopolis Country Club junior Golf Invitational was on Aug. 4 at the country club.
Rodney Bell, and organizer of the event said there was a wide range of age groups represented at the event. He said it is the only tournament he knows of in the area that allows all age groups of youth to compete.
He said the turnout for this year&8217;s event reached approximately 50 players, comprised of local youth as well as several participants from out of town.
Bell said the event is meant to allow children a chance to play with their peers out on the course, with the younger age groups playing nine-hole tournaments and the older age groups playing 18. And while players have fun, receiving door prizes and awards for their performances, Bell said there is also another reason for bringing kids together out on the course.
Bell said the event has become a great outlet for young players to cut their teeth. He said it is also rewarding for the organizers who help put the event together and meet with the players.
