DEMOPOLIS &8212; Tigers&8217; coach Tom Causey said he feels the group is at a point where it is focusing less on learning schemes for the upcoming football season and more on individual work of the players on the field.
The group began practice last Monday, shifting its focus from the system to the techniques needed to effectively run the system brought in by first-year coach Causey. After learning most of the intricacies of the new system, the group is returning to the basics on offense, defense and special teams.
As far as his defense, Causey said the group is focusing on closing the gap in coverage. He said adjustments at the line and reading what gaps are given to them by the offense are also issues the group is continuing to work with, since a mistake by one play can disrupt the entire defense and result in the group giving up a touchdown.
On the offense side of the ball, Causey said the work being put in by the quarterbacks is crucial to the team&8217;s success. He said the quarterbacks have been doing better at making reads at the line and adjusting plays, but said there are still some issues at adjusting plays after the snap and making the best reads.
Causey said the group is going to have to continue to work hard to do so. He noted that the first game against Thomasville gives the team a strong opponent to test their mettle.
He said Thomasville has most of their players back on defense, so his offense is facing a veteran squad.
