LINDEN &8212; Family members the Linden National Guard unit will get an opportunity to meet the personnel and the people that their enlisted loved ones have been working with during a Family Day today.
The special event is set for 9 a.m. on at Scott Park and will include food, drinks, games and activities for children and adults.
Sgt. 1st Class Ruby Vickers, who has been coordinating the planning of the event, said it is a time for all of the family members to meet the personnel and the people that their enlisted loved ones have been working with.
Vickers said that the Linden unit consists of 38 personnel, and Vickers said most of them will be in attendance, except for those who have been deployed on active duty. Currently, Vickers said, they have five members that are deployed with other units in the state.
Several local businesses and organizations have volunteered their support by providing both money and food for the event. Napoleon&8217;s Restaurant in Demopolis provided hot dogs and hamburgers for the grill, Vickers said.
Post 5377 of the VFW donated $200 to support the unit on this project. They also secured a $500 grant from the National VFW Headquarters under the Military Assistance Program to help fund the event.
Vickers said that they have also received numerous donations from other members of the community.
The family day festivities are scheduled to include food, a slip and slide for the children and a dunking booth.
As for who will be manning the dunking booth, Vickers said, &8220;By that time it will be so hot that we&8217;ll all get out there just to cool off.&8221;
