LINDEN &8212; Two businesses in downtown Linden were destroyed in a fire that blazed throughout the early mornings and into the evening Wednesday morning.
The blaze left burning ash and rubble in the building on the corner of 8th Avenue and Abbot Street, which housed Simply Southern Florist and the former location of Look-N-Good Barber Shop.
The Linden Fire Department was called to the scene of the fire at 2:42 a.m. yesterday.
Creel said the department was limited in the access they had to the building because of power lines and additional ground wires.
Creel said the power company responded quickly to the blaze, but his crew was unable to save the building.
Creel said he had to make the call to pull his firemen out of the blaze because the rooflines began caving in on the building, leaving the potential to trap firemen under the fire.
Creel said Simply Southern and the barbershop were both a total loss. He said he understood the barbershop was in preparations of being reopened, since Look-N-Good had relocated.
Creel said no one was injured during the blaze.
