LINDEN &8212; The football players at Linden High School have been playing catch up to teams in the area on normal schedules this summer after a coaching change last month.
Since being named the new head football coach and athletic director at the school, Andro Williams has been working on getting in and rearranging the program to suit the system he wants to run. He said the transition process, though putting the team behind, has gone pretty well.
Williams said the call for leadership was answered by the older athletes on the team, who have quickly acclimated to the program. He also said, with 25 juniors and seniors on the team to 20 sophomores, freshmen and eighth graders, the rapid study of the veterans allows them to help teach the younger players who are just learning the basics of high school systems.
Williams said to catch up the group has been working duel duties this summer, hitting the weight room and the practice field. He said he feels the weight lifting side of the summer has been productive for the group, who added explosion exercises like power clean to their regiment, and he is excited to have the group max out what they can lift again so he can not the improvement.
On the field side of the summer, Williams said the group has been out on the field picking up as much as they can in the short period of time with which they have to work. He said he is confident that they have learned a good amount of the system already.
Williams said the group, along with practice, has even faced several 7-on-7 match ups with other schools from the area and region. He said he feels doing this serves two purposes: allowing reps of what they have been practicing and building confidence in the team.
