The West Alabama under-14 all-stars won their district tournament this weekend over Central Alabama. Though a group effort, crucial at bats and fielding by Russ Seale in the first match up helped the group get over the hump at the plate and cruise to a three-game win in the best of five series.
During the first two innings of play for the groups on Thursday, West Alabama took a, 2-1, lead before the game as postponed to Friday due to weather. In the first portion of the game neither group&8217;s bats proved much of a threat, and it looked as if the teams would run a close fought series.
After a lead off single from Tyler Howerton in the fourth, Seale hit a single that set up five-score run in the inning, during which he scored.
In the top of the fifth Seale&8217;s bat again proved clutch to the team&8217;s runs, when he hit a double that brought in Ben Pettus and was later scored off a double from Deonte Washington, thus involving himself in both runs of the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Seal produced on the defensive side when, with two Central Alabama players on base, he ran down a pop fly, catching it over the shoulder in stride, that would have otherwise lead to a two run double.
In the top of the sixth, with bases loaded, Seale hit a fielder&8217;s choice that got him out at first but advanced the loaded bases, scoring Roshan Hira and ending scoring for the game, 12-1.
