Linden wins U-10 Ripken district title

DEMOPOLIS &8212; The Linden under 10 district 10 Cal Ripken all-star team advanced to the state tournament this weekend after a 10-run inning closed out the final game of the tournament in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Demopolis started out strong with a five-run opening inning. Ryan Schroeder opened up the game with a double to left field and was joined on base by Wallace Tutt off an error. Tripp Perry batted the two in with a triple to center field.
Seth Aiken singled and scored Perry with a hit right field before getting out off of a fielder&8217;s choice that put Wil Stephens on base. Blake Bowden hit a pop fly to left field and an error in the outfield allowed both home and Stephens to score. The inning was escaped through the next two batters with Demopolis up, 5-0.
Linden cut the lead in the bottom of the inning. First batter, Sebastian Hale,got on off a base in balls as did Hayden Hall after a pop out to second base. Following a strike out, Tyler Barkley, too, got on base off a walk and a double from Hayden Huckabee scored Hale and Hall. Linden saw another walk of Carson Huckabee, but Demopolis finished the group&8217;s scoring off an out from the next batter, 5-2.
Demopolis followed their breakout first inning with a less spectacular second, with four players up and three down.
Linden started the bottom of the second with a strikeout, but followed with two singles from Hale and David Dunn. An error off a hit from Hall loaded the bases, and Hale was brought in when Tait Sanford was hit by a pitch. Barkley again got on base off a walk, which brought in Dunn and was followed by a sacrifice from Hayden Huckabee that brought in Hall. Carson Huckabee hit a double that score Sanford and Barkley, and himself was brought in off a single from Caleb Broadhead before the Demopolis defense ended the inning, 8-5.
Neither group provided fuel to the scoring fire in the third inning before bringing up a high-scoring fourth that ended Demopolis&8217; all-star season.
Demopolis started the inning with rally hopes, tying up the score in the top of the inning. Josh Holifield and Michael Trest both started out with singles followed by a strikeout. An error off a Schroeder hit brought in Holifield and consecutive hit by pitches brought in Trest. A single from Stephens brought in Schroeder and ended the scoring for Demopolis, tying the game 8-8.
Linden countered the Demopolis rally attempt with a series of runs that eclipsed that of Demopolis and ended the game. Broadhead and Gabriel Hale both got on off a base on balls and a single from Sebastian Hale loaded the bases. A single from Dunn brought in Broadhead and was followed by a strikeout. Sanford got on base off a walk, which brought in Gabriel Hale and was followed b a strikeout. Hayden Huckabee was hit by a pitch to score Sebastian Hale and a walk of Carson Hale brought in Dunn.
Broadhead reached base for the second time in the inning off an error at first that allowed him and all runners to score. Gabriel Hale again was walked and followed by Sebastian Hale getting a triple off an error at second. Sebastian Hale scored again in the inning, reaching home off a passed ball and ending the game through the 10-run rule, 18-8.
