LINDEN &8212; The Linden School System announced at its board meeting Thursday that Luther Davis will no longer be the athletic director and head football coach for the system next year.
Instead the positions will pass to incoming coach, Andro Williams, who comes to the system from Sweet Water High School in the Marengo County School System. Outgoing superintendent, who announced his retirement at the previous board meeting, Dr. Walter Davis said the change in coaching positions sprung up relatively recently.
At the system&8217;s meeting the board both accepted the employment of Williams, who didn&8217;t coach at the school last year, as physical education teacher at Linden Elementary School and his transfer to system athletic director, system head football coach and physical education teacher at George P. Austin High School.
At the same time the board accepted the transfer of Luther Davis from system athletic director, system head coach and physical education teacher at George P. Austin High School to physical education teacher at Linden elementary and basketball coach at George P. Austin Junior High.
After the job was posted the health issues of coach Davis made it necessary to find someone who could fill his position.
Davis said the system felt confident in bringing in Williams, who had applied during the initial opening, to fill in for the roles of coach Davis because of his previous experience. Williams was served as defensive coordinator at Sweet Water, which has won the state championship a couple of times in the past several years during William&8217;s tenure.
