DEMOPOLIS &045; The Two Rivers Arts Council is an organization dedicated to providing residents of the area access to programs and events that provide interaction with different facets of the arts. The current council was reorganized in 2001 and since that time has had one group that it has wanted to bring to the area to perform, and their hopes are finally being fulfilled.
Sarah Chandler Hallmark said since the group was revamped early this decade it has been interested in bringing the University Choir of Stillman College to the area for a performance. She said things regularly came up that put off the plans until the two organizations finally were able to set a date.
Hallmark said the group from Stillman is interested in gaining awareness within the area, in an attempt to bring students from Demopolis and surrounding areas to the school and its choir. She said choir students of Demopolis High School would have a chance to preview the group, which accepts the top vocal talent.
Hallmark said bringing an event like this to the area helps the Council achieve its goal of diverse events. She said it also helps bring interest to the arts.
Hallmark said along with the Stillman Choir the Council would sponsor several other events during the upcoming calendar year. She said the group already brought a program to the area through the Springer Theater group out of Georgia and this will be their second calendar event for the year.
Hallmark said there are other events the group will present during the year, such as the bringing the Alabama Symphony Orchestra again with the help of the Chamber during Christmas on the River.
The Stillman College Choir performance will be held in the Demopolis High School Auditorium at 3 p.m. Sunday. The event will be free to Council members and $10 at the door.
