Demopolis Tigers on track

GREENSBORO &045; The Demopolis High School Tigers was among seven schools that participated in the Greensboro Invitational Track meet held yesterday afternoon at Greensboro High School.
The Tiger 4×400 relay team was impressive with Brian Taylor running the first leg followed by Zach Davis, Antwan Nelson and Justin Hardy.
Demopolis junior Jamey Hurst won the 1600-meter run with ease, as he almost lapped most of the field. He also finished third in the 800-meter run. The Tigers ran third in the 4×100 relay, with the team of Keyan Walker, Nelson, Greg Irvin, and Taylor running the last leg.
Shantrell Braxton finished second for the boys (23:16) and Ashya Samuels finished third for the girls in the 200-meter dash. Madison Duckworth claimed second place after getting pass A.L. Johnson’s Ebony Craig at the finish line.
John Essex also competed, as they fielded a team that participated in almost all of the events.
Brittany Edwards took third place honors in the girl’s shot put.
A.L. Johnson, was the another Marengo County school in the meet, which also participated in its first meet of the season. The Eagles dominated the shot put event, with senior Aymar Johnson grabbing first place for the boys with a toss of 42′-6&8221;. Shannon Steele and Krystal Washington finished first and second, respectfully for the girls in the shot put.
Steele and Charlester Wims were one and two in the girl’s long jump.
A.L. Johnson got a one and three finish in the girl’s 800-meters, with Wims and Craig running the event. In the girl’s 400-meter, Ashley Edwards ran third for the Eagles.
Greensboro, R.C Hatch, Sunshine, and Francis Marion were the other schools that participated in the event.
