DIXONS MILLS &045; The Marengo High School track team is anxiously awaiting the start of their season. The Panthers are well equipped to make a run at the state title. They boast a team of 30 athletes, which will allow them to compete in many of the events and add to their point totals.
Senior P. J. Brown, who was last season’s 1A 100-meter champ (11.40), is returning and hopes to pick up where he left off, last year, including another championship. He will also compete in the 200-meter dash.
Ronnie Hildreth, the only other senior on the team, who finished fourth in the state 100-meter (12.03) last year, looks to match Brown stride for stride. Hildreth ran the four-by-100 relay in 2006 also.
The young Panther squad practices with the hindrance of no track facilities.
Marengo is in the third year of its track and field program and now has enough of a team to score points at its upcoming events.
The Panthers will compete in an exhibition meet at Greensboro today. Their first regular season meet will take place on March 27 at R.C. hatch in Uniontown.
