DEMOPOLIS &8212; An exhibit of photographs of historical landmarks in Marengo County taken by Demopolis High School art students will be presented at Lyon Hall tonight.
The photographs were taken as part of a project the students in the Art II class at the school were asked to participate in by the Marengo County Historical Society for a calendar it has complied. The students were asked to present the historical landmarks of the area in a unique way for the calendar.
Brooker said the society has compiled calendars before with elementary students who were asked to research the history of sites they chose, but said it has been several years ago. He said this time the society asked students to take artistic pictures of historical sites, paying close attention to original angles and architectural elements of the structures for the shots.
Barley is a member of the society so he asked his students if they would volunteer to participate in producing the calendars. Brooker said 16 members of Barley&8217;s class jumped at the idea and al participating students have at least two photographs in the calendar.
Each student was provided with a 27 exposure disposable camera, with which to take his or her shots. Brooker said the students were instructed to photograph as many or few sites as they deemed necessary, and he said they tried to instill in the students that the man purpose of the project was creativity.
Brooker said family and friends of the students are encouraged to attend the event that will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. He said the calendars containing the photographs by the students will be sold at the Canebrake Craft Corner at Bluff Hall for $20 and the proceed will be used to provide maintenance on the properties owned by the society.
