WAP Titans snip Cornerstone

COLOMBIANA &045; West Alabama Preperatory Titan freshman Kris Kimbrough grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up and in the basket with 18 seconds left in the game to beat the Cornerstone Christian Chargers, 42-41 on the road Saturday. It was a very close defensive struggle, as the Titans recorded its fourth straight win.
The Chargers were up by one, 41-40, after making on of two free throw attempts with 46 seconds left to go in the game. WAP pushed the ball up court on its ensuing possession. Terrance Irby attempted a three-pointer, but missed when Kimbrough got the offensive put-back. Cornerstone tried a desperate shot with less than five seconds left but to no avail.
WAP had trouble scoring in the first half of the contest, as they couldn’t hit any thing from the floor. They held a slim 9-8 lead after one quarter of play. The Chargers went on top by the end of the second quarter with a 22-20 score.
The Titans came out after the half and put up 16 points in the third quarter and went ahead 36-34 after three quarters of play.
The fourth quarter was all defense or deliberate offense, as total of 13 points were put up by both teams. WAP netted six points and their opponent netted seven.
Irby finished the game with 24 points. Kimbrough added 14 points.
WAP’s record improves 9 &045; 10, 2-1 in area play 2-2 in region play. They travel to York Sumter Tuesday night for an area match up against Sumter Academy.
