Thomasville slips past Tigers

Missed opportunities cost the Demopolis High School Lady Tigers dearly in their 2-1 loss to region rival Thomasville Wednesday night.
The Lady Tigers left seven runners on base through the course of the game, which proved to be huge in the latter innings.
But, overall, the Lady Tigers put forth a scrappy performance that would have led to a win on most nights.
Sara Davis threw a great game giving up only four hits while striking out nine Thomasville batters.
Davis got off to a good start as she struck out the first three batters she faced.
But the damage came in the second inning as Thomasville plated two runs on crucial Demopolis errors. The runs were the only they would score in the game, but also turned out to be the only ones they needed.
In the Lady Tiger’s half of the third inning a controversial play at the plate changed the game. After reaching base on a single, Davis made her way around the bags. She seemed well on her way to the Lady Tigers first run when she collided with the Thomasville catcher in the baseline and caused her to miss the ball. But, the call on the field ruled Davis automatically out and seemed put Demopolis in a state of shock.
The Lady Tigers got runners on base in the fourth and fifth innings, but never seemed to get their legs back under them.
That is, until the sixth inning. Stewart Gross reached base on an error and moved to third base on another Thomasville miscue. Brandi McGee then slapped a sacrifice fly to left field to score Gross and pull Demopolis to within a 2-1 game.
But both teams held strong for the rest of the game to secure the Thomasville win.
Morgan Paterson led Demopolis at the plate with a 1-2 showing. Davis followed with a 1-3 day. India Chancellor also threw in a hit.
The junior varsity Lady Tigers also had a rough day on the diamond falling 11-2.
Shantree Braxton led Demopolis going 1-1 and scoring a run. Raven Simmons was also 1-1. Sydney Hasty was also 1-1 with a run scored.
