Though both Demopolis High School soccer squads did not come away with wins, both put up a strong showing at Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa last night.
The Lady Tigers stormed to a 6-1 win, while the men’s team battled to a 1-1 tie.
Tiger head coach Peter Keen said the men’s team put themselves in position to win the game, but a late surge from Bryant led to a tie.
“We had them 1-0 late in the game,” Keen said. “But, they were able to come back and tie it.”
Though the team did not get the win, Keen said, he is still proud of the strides they have made so far.
“They are like a whole different team,” Keen said. “They are playing the way they are taught and they have really improved. This is a team that beat us earlier in the season and we were able to hang with them.
Jacob Roemen scored the team’s only goal with an assist from Wayne West.
Arnold Rogers held down the goal making a spectacular save that proved to be the difference between a tie and a loss.
The men’s record stands at 2-5-2 on the season.
In girl’s action, the game was never really close as Demopolis stormed to a blowout win.
Megan Keen got things going for Demopolis off an assist from Abby Coplin.
Keely Rodriques then got in on the action scoring three
consecutive goals to pull a hat trick.
The final two goals came from Keen and Coplin when shots deflected off Bryant defenders into the goal.
With the win, the girls are now 9-3-1.
The men’s team will be in action again today against Brew Tech of Montgomery.
Both teams hit the field again Tuesday when they face Hillcrest at home.
