DHS football banquet Thursday

This week, Demopolis will have one last chance to stand and applaud the most successful class of seniors in the Demopolis High football program’s history.
The traditional annual football banquet will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Demopolis High School cafeteria. The banquet is a chance for the school, team, coaching staff, and community to come together and commemorate the Tigers’ 12-1 2005 season.
“We’ve done one of these every year I’ve been coaching,” Demopolis head coach Doug Goodwin says of the importance of the banquet. “It’s a good way to honor the kids, to give them some recognition for their hard work.”
This banquet promises to be a special one given what the graduating seniors have accomplished during their four years as part of the Demopolis program. The Tigers have accrued a 53-3 overall record in the seniors’ careers, have posted four consecutive perfect 10-0 regular seasons, and claimed the school’s first state championship.
In addition to honoring the seniors and the rest of Demopolis’s regional championship-winning team, Goodwin says the banquet is an important step in shutting the book on one season and officially start preparations for the coming one.
“It’s a good way to close the year out,” he says. “We can close it up and then we can move on to the next season.”
Tickets for the event are still available. They can be purchased at Demopolis High School and cost $6.
