UWA volleyball falls weekend matches

HARROGATE, TN- Twenty-two kills by Rafaella Maranhao and 21 kills by Amanda Heaton were not enough as The University of West Alabama Tiger volleyball team (8-18, 1-7 GSC) fell 3-1, Friday night (30-28, 27-30, 30-25, 30-26) at Lincoln Memorial (17-9, 3-4 GSC).
Elizabeth Colley was the next leading hitter for UWA, finishing the night with eight kills and two block assists. Morgan Graffigna continues her strong play, ending the night with a match-high 53 assists, while Melanie Moffett lead the way defensively as she recorded a match-high 30 digs. Maranhao and Heaton finished with 21 and 18 digs respectively.
Kirsten Atkinson’s 21 kills, followed by Melissa Blackwell, who finished with 16, paced Lincoln Memorial. Blythe McCulley was strong defensively, ending with a team-high 20 digs, while Allison Holstein and Courtney Marton finished with 18 digs, respectively. Holstein also dished out a team-best 44 assists, while Karlee Wyrick finished with a match-high four service aces.
The Tigers move to 8-18 on the season and will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to Martin Methodist for a 6:00 p.m., match.
