DEMOPOLIS-The Demopolis High School varsity volleyball team will begin their quest to add another championship trophy to the case as they host the Class 4-A Region 4 state tournament today.
The tournament will be double elimination and will include Demopolis, Choctaw County and Thomasville. The first game will see Thomasville and Choctaw County squaring off at noon with Demopolis taking on the loser at 1 p.m. The Lady Tigers will then take on the winner at 2 p.m. If the teams find themselves in a three-way tie they will draw names, otherwise, one team will go home and the others will continue play.
Demopolis High principal Dr. Isaac Espy said they plan to let the students come to the game and pledge their support.
“We are going to allow our students to come to the 2 p.m. game and we encourage everyone else to do the same,” Espy said. “Our girls have really done a great job. They stumbled a little at the beginning of the season, but since then they have really pulled it together and gotten on a roll.”
Espy said the team has kicked their game into high gear and hoped they will play before a packed house.
“Coach Tammy Thrasher and the girls have really worked hard,” Espy said. “They have really come together as a team and we want everyone to come out and support them. They have really made us proud. We encourage all our students and people in the community to come out because they need your support.”
Admission for the game will be $4 as set by the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
If the Tigers win the tournament they will be given the opportunity to host the next round Saturday. The tournaments runner up will still have the opportunity to advance, however, they will have to travel for their second round matchup.
