Southern Academy cruises to victory, 48-6

GREENSBORO-After spotting the Central Christian Warriors a 6-0 lead the Southern Academy Cougars caught fire for a 48-6 homecoming thrashing. After finding themselves down by six the Cougars ended their early homecoming celebration and got down to business. The cougars got on the board quickly as Jason Segura found the end zone. Adam Brown hit the extra point to make the score 7-6 Southern.
In the second quarter the Cougars took to the air as quarterback Nathan Bonds found Segura again for a 27 yard touchdown pass to make the score 13-6. The extra point was again good making the score 14-6.
On the next play from scrimmage for the Cougars Wallace Drury sliced through the Warrior defense carrying Central defenders before shaking completely free to trot in for a 43-yard touchdown. Again, the extra point was good making the score 21-6.
Drury called his own number on their next possession as he again split the Warrior defense for a 68-yard touchdown pass. The PAT failed leaving the Cougars with a 27-6 lead.
Bonds would add the Cougars final points of the half on a 6 yard wheeler to make the score 34-6 at the half.
Drury and Bonds would do the rest of the damage for the Cougars in the second half as well as Drury in third would run in from 22 yards and Bonds from 10 in the fourth.
The Cougar offense rolled all night to the tune of 417 rushing yards, 314 from Drury.
The Cougars will try to extend their winning streak next week against the West Alabama Prep Titans in Demopolis.
