The Alabama Cooperative Extension System of Marengo County will present the Mobile Dairy Classroom to several area schools in the coming weeks.
“The purpose of the Mobile Dairy is to inform students about dairy cows and show them where milk comes from,” said Susan Thompson, regional Extension agent.
Mobile Dairy instructor Matt Armbrester will give a 30 minute milking presentation to students visiting the 32-foot mobile classroom, Thompson said. The Mobile Dairy carries a live cow with a fully operational milking parlor.
In addition to the milking demonstration, Armbrester will also discuss the anatomy of dairy cows and the importance of consuming dairy products each day.
The Mobile Dairy is a free service to schools. Three sessions will be presented at Westside Elementary School Sept. 19 at 11:35 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Other area visits include U.S. Jones Elementary School, Sept. 20; Marengo High School and Sweet Water High School, Sept. 26; and George P. Austin Middle School, Marengo Academy and Linden Elementary, Sept. 27.
