NEWBERN- Warning: Sunshine High School’s new look may surprise teachers, parents, and students.
According to principal Herbert Pickens, he wanted to “lighten up [the front office] to give it a glow so it will jump out at kids when they come in.”
Along with shining floors, and repainted ceilings and hallways, students will come back to a new weight room and some repainted classrooms.
“Paint in some of the classrooms was beginning to peel,” Pickens said. “So, we’re fixing that.”
He said the ceiling paint was also chipping and flaking so workers are fixing those spots as well.
As of right now, the weightroom is complete and finishing touches are being put on ceilings and classrooms.
“We’re giving a more attractive look so kids will see something different from last year,” he said.
Pickens plans on putting a fence around Sunshine’s campus in the future, but for now he is finishing this project before teachers come back on the eight and students on the eleventh.
“Teachers will be excited about our new look. Everyone likes to see a change when they come back,” he said. “Hopefully, this will kick us off to a great start.”
