DEMOPOLIS-There will be twice the fun at the Demopolis riverfront next weekend.
July 30 marks the twentieth anniversary of the Demopolis Yacht Basin, and it is also the day the River City Rumble will begin.
Fred Hansard, manager of the basin, said the Rumble would not affect the basin’s plans for the invitation-only event.
“Our customers will be here, past boaters, and vendors,” Hansard said. “There’s going to be a DJ coming in, caterers and all that good stuff.”
Hansard, the basin’s manager since 1986,said approximately 1,000 boaters have docked at the basin since January and he is expecting boaters from all over the eastern half of the U.S. to show up for the celebration.
The 3rd Annual River City Rumble sponsored by the Outboard Drag Boat Association (ODBA) was originally planned for July 16-17, but has been rescheduled for July 30-31.
Over 100 boats are expected to compete this year. There will also be live entertainment, children’s activities and food.
Races run from noon to 6:00 p.m.
Admission is $7 a day for adults and $4 for children under 12.
Although there is much good business on the riverfront, Hansard said he has no immediate plans to make changes the basin.
“I won’t change anything at this point,” he said. “But we’re constantly expanding.”
