Marengo Idol deadline approaching

The deadline to participate in this year’s Marengo Idol is drawing near. Wayne Kirk, who is organizing the second annual Marengo Idol, said time is passing quickly for contestants to get their name in the hat.
“The deadline is July 19,” Kirk said. “We really want to stress that. They need to get registered by July 19.”
The first annual Marengo County Idol had a wonderful turnout and Kirk said he expects more of the same this year. Like last year, the winner of this program will be given a shot at the big show. Kirk said for this reason they follow the same requirements as the television program.
The qualifications for the contest are simple. Anyone age 16 to 28 is eligible provided they are a solo act and keep their songs at three minutes or less. There will be no rap and no explicit lyrics allowed and a $20 entry fee will be required.
The program will be held August 6 at 5 p.m. in the Demopolis Middle School gymnasium.
Last years winner is proof that Marengo Idol can give performers exposure. Last year’s Marengo County Idol winner, Margie Walker, was given a chance to travel to New Orleans and try out for the 2005 American Idol. In May, she was also featured on WAKA’s CBS 8 This Morning along with DJ “Daddy” (Gus Weiss).
This years show will feature two big names as guest judges in Amy Kelley, the Producer of WAKA’s CBS 8 This Morning and CBS 8 News at Noon, along with Ashley Paige, Anchor of CBS 8 This Morning and CBS 8 News at Noon.
A nonrefundable $20 entry fee is required for contestants. Tickets will be $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
