Not every pregnancy is expected, neither is every pregnancy received with the same joy experienced by some families, but Sav-A-Life in Demopolis is there to help those who received the unexpected news of conception and don’t know what to do.
Now, to help even more, Sav-A-Life is changing its hours.
“Effective May 1, West Alabama Sav-A-Life will change its hours of operation to better serve the pregnancy related needs and educational programs for teens in this area,” Director Barbara Sessions said. “We will now be closed on Monday.”
The new hours at the center located at 722 N. Walnut Street will be Tuesday, 9 a.m. to noon; Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon.
West Alabama Sav-A-Life offers counseling, Bible study and other services to women experiencing a crisis pregnancy.
“We’re very pro-life and we encourage women to give the baby up for adoption or keep it,” a spokeswoman with the local agency said.
In addition to counseling services, Sav-A-Life offers abstinence training in the schools and a diaper bag program to help offset the cost of a baby’s needs.
“At the beginning of the pregnancy the women receive a diaper bag, and each time they come to a meeting they receive an item for that bag,” the spokeswoman explained.
The local organization has also sponsored a conference on adoption, featuring speakers who have adopted and those who made the decision to terminate a pregnancy.
