An accident early Friday morning took the life of one young man and sent two other individuals to the hospital.
The accident, which occurred in Sumter County on Klondike Rd., is being investigated by Alabama Sate Troopers.
The deceased, Michael Stewart, Jr., age 18 of Vinemont, was a student at the University of Alabama (UWA).
The Livingston Police Department responded first to the call. Preliminary reports state that speeding could have been a factor.
The two injured individuals were Michael Hinson, 18, of Dothan, also a freshman at UWA and Amy Dial, 29, of Epes.
” Our Thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of this tragedy, particularly the family of Michael Stewart. Faculty, staff and students at UWA are a close community, and this is a great loss to that community. We remain Hopeful for a full recovery from injury for Michael Hinson and Amy Dial,” said UWA President Richard Holland in a statement regarding the accident on Nov. 12.
At this time, Michael Hinson is in Jeff Anderson Hospital in Meridian and is in stable condition. Amy Dial is at UAB in Birmingham in the TBICU.
