Tigers tear up Cougars in 71-0 blowout win

The Demopolis Tigers entered Livingston with high hopes of completing the season undefeated in their region.
And that goal was accomplished last night as the Tigers destroyed the Livingston Cougars, 71-0, on the road.
The Tigers got things started quickly when the strong Demopolis defense forced the Cougars to punt after their first possession.
As Chad Schroeder took the ball on the punt return, he ran it back 83 yards for a quick Demopolis touchdown with 9:40 left in the first quarter.
After a successful extra point kick by Devin Goodwin, the Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead.
With 1:22 remaining in the first quarter, Rod Jones rushed in one yard for another Tigers touchdown to increase the Demopolis lead to 14-0.
After DHS forced a Cougars punt to begin the second quarter, the Tigers took over at the 44-yard line.
And on the fourth play of the possession, Goodwin connected with Schroeder for another Tigers touchdown to bring the lead to 21-0.
With 6:57 left in the first half, Goodwin connected with Colby Roberts for a 17-yard touchdown pass after Schroeder returned the punt 55 yards.
After a successful extra point kick by Goodwin, the Tigers lead moved to 28-0.
Under four minutes later, with 3:36 left in the second quarter, Goodwin found Bart Pettus open in the endzone for a Demopolis touchdown and a 35-0 lead.
The Tigers added a safety with 1:23 left in the first half to increase their lead to 37-0.
After a great punt return by Dontrell Miller and with 0:32 remaining in the first half, Goodwin found Pettus open for a 6-yard touchdown pass.
Demopolis went into halftime with a 44-0 lead.
With 7:57 left in the third quarter, Dusty Gracie took the ball in 16 yards for another Tigers touchdown and a 51-0 lead.
At the 2:07 mark in the third quarter, Demopolis scored again when William Burrell ran in two yards to bring the Tigers lead to 58-0.
Jacob Smelley recovered a fumble with 0:42 remaining in the third quarter to give the Tigers possession at the 25-yard line.
The Tigers began the fourth quarter with a quick touchdown as Schroeder ran in 16 yards to the endzone to bring the Demopolis lead to 64-0 with 11:51 left in the game.
Demopolis tacked on one more touchdown towards the end of the game to bring the final score to 71-0.
Once again, the Tigers played well in all aspects of the game and will be hosting the playoffs after last night’s victory.
With the win, the Tigers have ended the season undefeated in their region and will take on 5A Greenville next Friday night at home.
