Demopolis aims to remain unbeaten
By: Denton Ramsey/Sports Editor
Demopolis at Jemison
The Demopolis Tigers, ranked No. 4 in Class 4A according to the latest AHSAA polls, enter tonight’s game after a 62-0 blowout win over Greensboro for a homecoming shutout.
The Jemison Panthers, meanwhile, come into host tonight’s affair after beating Bibb County last week, 40-35.
The Tigers are 6-0 on the season and have high hopes of going all the way to the state championship.
The Panthers are 5-1 and also have hopes of making some noise in the postseason.
Tonight’s match up should be a good one with Demopolis facing a tough opponent in 4A action.
However, I believe Demopolis will once again run away with another win as they board the bus home.
Look for the Tigers to come out hot and set the tempo early in what should end up becoming a one-sided fight.
My prediction: Demopolis 56, Jemison 7
Akron at John Essex
The Akron Rams head off to face the John Essex Hornets tonight after a shutout loss last week, 72-0, to A.L. Johnson.
The Hornets, on the other hand, will be hosting tonight’s regional game after a hard-fought loss last week to Sunshine, 24-22.
With the Hornets returning home tonight, look for John Essex to put together a big win over the Rams.
My guess, sorry Akron, is another blowout loss for the Rams.
My prediction: John Essex 35, Akron 0
Sunshine at
A.L. Johnson
Well, I have to start out by saying that the Sunshine Tigers have definitely proven to me they can play the game of football.
The Tigers head out to face the A.L. Johnson Eagles tonight after a 24-22 victory over the John Essex Hornets last week at home.
The Eagles, meanwhile, host Sunshine in a regional affair after a big shutout victory over Akron, 72-0.
And although the Eagles are heavily favored in the match up, look for Sunshine to put up a fight.
My assumption is this game will be close through the first three quarters of action, but look for the Eagles to pull away in the fourth.
My prediction: A.L. Johnson 42, Sunshine 30
Carrollton at Linden
The Carrollton Indians enter tonight’s game after a 55-20 loss to Sweet Water last week.
The Linden Patriots, meanwhile, will be hosting tonight’s regional affair after a 33-20 loss to American Christian.
Both American Christian and Sweet Water are tough opponents in class 1A action, so look for tonight’s match up to be a much closer score.
My guess is that Linden will most likely come out on top.
My prediction: Linden 28, Carrollton 21
Millry at Marengo
The Millry Wildcats scratch their way into tonight’s game after a 34-0 shutout victory over J.U. Blacksher last week.
The Marengo Panthers come into host the game after shutting out Fruitdale last week, 42-0.
With both teams coming off shutout wins, look for tonight’s game to be filled with energy and excitement.
My guess is that Marengo will narrowly escape with a victory.
My prediction: Marengo 35, Millry 30
Keith at Hale County
The Keith Bears come into tonight’s match up after a 55-14 loss to the Gordo Green Wave.
Hale County, meanwhile, will be hosting tonight’s game after a 53-6 loss to the Calera Eagles.
After both teams got beat fairly easily last week, look for some hard-hitting action in tonight’s affair.
My assumption is that Hale County will walk away with the victory.
My prediction: Hale County 14, Keith 12
Francis Marion at Sumter County
The Francis Marion Rams head to Sumter County tonight after a 34-28 loss to Central-Hayneville.
The Sumter County Wildcats, on the other hand, enter tonight as the host team after a 53-20 loss to Midfield.
Sorry, Wildcats, but I don’t think tonight will bring about any different outcome besides a loss.
My prediction: Francis Marion 35, Sumter County 7
Bibb County at
Greene County
The Bibb County Choctaws head out to Greene County tonight for a regional match up after a 40-35 loss to Jemison.
The Greene County Tigers will host tonight’s affair after a win last week over Livingston, 30-12.
Tonight’s showdown between these two teams should be close, but I assume Bibb County will probably walk away with the ‘W.’
My prediction: Bibb County 35, Greene County 21
Dallas County at Greensboro
The Dallas County Hornets swarm into tonight’s regional game after a close loss to Southside-Selma, 21-14.
The Greensboro Raiders, on the other hand, host tonight’s match up after a shutout loss, 62-0, to the Demopolis Tigers.
With Dallas County looking to be able to hang with a tough opponent like Southside-Selma, look for the Hornets to come away with a win tonight.
My prediction: Dallas County 28, Greensboro 7
Livingston at Southside-Selma
The Livingston Cougars head out to Selma tonight after a 30-12 loss to Greene County.
The Southside-Selma Panthers, meanwhile, come into tonight’s game as the host team after a 21-14 victory over Dallas County.
My guess is that most likely the Panthers will come out hot and put this game away early.
My prediction: Southside-Selma 35, Livingston 7
R.C. Hatch at Gordo
The R.C. Hatch Bobcats head into tonight’s 2A action after a 40-16 loss to Pickens County last week.
The Gordo Green Wave, on the other hand, ride into host tonight’s game after a 55-14 win over Keith.
I assume the Green Wave will come into tonight’s game looking for a win and will also walk away with one.
My prediction: Gordo 49, R.C. Hatch 21
Southern Academy at Cornerstone Christian
The Southern Academy Cougars, ranked No. 3 in the AISA polls, head to Cornerstone Christian tonight after a 43-0 victory over the West Alabama Prep Titans last week.
The Cornerstone Christian Chargers, meanwhile, will host tonight’s game after a 45-0 shutout win over East Memorial.
With the Cougars aiming to win state at the class 1A level, look for Southern Academy to continue their domination with a win tonight.
My prediction: Southern Academy 35, Cornerstone Christian 14
Sumter Academy at Shelby Academy
The Sumter Academy Eagles hit the road tonight after a 39-0 loss to Pickens Academy.
The Shelby Academy Raiders, hosting tonight’s game, beat Jefferson last week in a 47-0 shutout.
My assumption is that the Raiders will pull away early in this one and walk away with the victory.
My prediction: Shelby Academy 28, Sumter Academy 7
Clarke Prep at Marengo Academy
The Clarke Prep Gators will be on the road tonight after a 69-24 blowout over Marion Military Institute.
The Marengo Academy Longhorns will be the host team in tonight’s match up after a 28-20 loss to Tuscaloosa Academy.
Look for the Gators to come out with some heat as they hit the road to face the Longhorns.
My prediction: Clarke Prep 49, Marengo Academy 28
