The West Alabama Prep Titans have clinched a birth into the Class A AISA baseball playoffs with their 11-0 shutout of the Marion Military Institute Tigers Thursday night at the Sports Plex.
The Titans (11-8; 5-0) collected four runs in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone against the tigers, and allowed junior pitcher Cody Key to put down the Tigers in six innings. Key (2-0) went six innings earning 7K’s, while giving up no runs on two hits with three walks.
“I felt that Cody did a great job for us on the mound tonight,” WAP head coach Walker Reynolds said. “For being only his second start of the season, he really looked impressive.”
Key was not only successful on the mound against the Tigers, but also collected a game winning double in the sixth inning, driving in two runs to ten-run rule the Tigers 11-0. Shane Hilchey led the way for the Titans at the plate Thursday going 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Michael Bozeman went 1-for-2 with a triple and 3 RBIs, while both Kevin May and Nick Laduron went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs.
With the win the Titans assure themselves of a playoff spot, but will have to knock off Marion Academy next Tuesday to clinch a home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
