Demopolis – Senior pitcher Kelly Keasler struck out the side in each of the last three innings of the game to lead the 8-5 Demopolis Lady Tigers to an 8 – 2 win over the Hale County Lady Wildcats at the Demopolis Sports Plex Tuesday. Keasler (4-1), who pitched a complete game, scattered four hits while walking one and striking out 15 to earn the win.
“We hit ball better tonight”, Lady Tiger head coach Wayne Harris said. “Everyone played well and we were able to get everyone into the game.”
Hale County scored a run in the top of the first inning after an opposite field triple to right by the Lady Wildcats shortstop, but the threat would only yield the one run.
The DHS offense came alive in the bottom of the first after both Keasler and shortstop Lauren Roark were hit by pitches. Catcher India Chancelor would pick up the RBI’s with a sharply hit grounder to right field. Chancelor would pick up two more RBI’s with a blast to right in the bottom of the third that would score Roark and first basemen Katie Simmons.
With a 4-1 lead, the DHS offense would tack on another run in the fourth inning as outfielder Timie Lee singled and then stole second. Lee would later score on a hit by Heather Wright.
The Lady Tigers final runs of the game would come in the fifth inning when Chancelor reached first on a Lady Wildcats error. Stewart Gross entered to run for the Tiger catcher and stole second. Brandi McGee then tripled to score Gross. Lee followed McGee with a triple to center and the final run would come off a blooper by Knapp to score Lee. The Tiger defense would allow a run in the top of the seventh inning before settling down and closing down the game.
Demopolis will travel to Clarkdale, MS on Thursday for a 6 p.m. start. They will also be in action Friday night in Moundville before returning home on Saturday to host the Demopolis Invitational.
